Casey Kasem, is a struggling writer who is also struggling to make ends meet as a waitress, she lives in her landlord’s shed and has to walk his dog to be able to cover rent. Not only is she struggling but she’s also in debt and her love life is also in trouble. So she is in a season of struggle, she recently lost her mother. Casey’s life seems very complicated, her father is also disappointed that she chose to be a writer.Casey’s story, like so many stories in real life, is messy. She’s messy.
This is a really sad story, though some of the characters that support Casey in the restaurant are funny and caring they are not enough to help get rid of the bad omenin her life. She gets fired from the restaurant and is unemployed, the suffering continues.
Casey’s older lover, a successful writer who lost his wife comes back to Caseys’s life, he has two young sons and although he is widowed, he is stable, and there is Casey whose life is a mess. Casey’s life takes a turn for the worst and she has to choose to move in with one of her ex’s because she is about to be evicted for not being able to pay rent.
King portrays how financial insecurity impacts love, that it matters how stable you are in life if you want to balance your relationship. She writes about the uncomfortable truth that we experience on a daily basis. King wrote an actually realistic story of a young woman just trying to figure it all out. If you’re not interested in slipping into the life of a woman who is flawed and is no stranger to failure, this might not be the book for you.
It’s a definite read, the reflection is quite sad though,
Hope you enjoy it
